Outfit Post - Indian Fusion

Hello! How has your Monday been so far?
You still have time to enter my two giveaways. India residents go here for your Rs.500 gift voucher to Globus and US residents go here for a fabulous mineral eyeshadow trio.
Did you have a great weekend? I did a little shopping in H&M.  Every weekend, I say that I had a fabulous one, so this time, I'm attaching pictures for proof. We went to Little Delhi restaurant and had a sizzling steaming paneer tikka. If you look closely, you can see the steam.

And then we had an amazing mixed vegetable korma.

With a coconut and raisin stuffed naan.

I've had this top for many years but I never wore it much. It was the perfect piece to wear for the In-Fb remix this month. The title was Indian Fusion, so I mixed up this ethnic, bold and standout top with my trusted deep red jeans.
I paired my mixed metal bangles with a bright orange bangle bracelet and gold metal toe flats. Black and gold ball earrings completed my simple look.

Top - Handicraft store from India
Jeans - Zara(similar)
Shoes - Forever 21
Watch - May 28th
Orange Bangle - InPink
Mixed metal bangles - Handicraft store - India (similar)

Here is a closer look at some of the details.

Have a great week ahead. Did you do any shopping over the weekend? I would love to know what you got and where!!

Inspirations for Indian Fusion

As you all know, I'm always excited for In-FB remixes. This time the challenge is to wear Indian Fusion. While I still haven't decided on my final look, its fun to do some shop-hopping and put together my fantasy outfits.
Here is one such outfit I put together in my head.

Red Kurta - Globus - Rs.1499
Kate Spade Spiral tights - $14
Lulu Townsend pumps - $49.95
Spring Street Design Group red jewel bangle - Nordstrom - $36
Guess plum wood rhinestone bangle - $25

Red and purple is such a daring combination. I have so many anarkali type kurtas and I was thinking of the best way to make them suitable to wear here in the US. Since fall is fast approaching, I have picked deep jewel tones to illustrate my point.
This gorgeous red kurta is from Globus. You can by it here for Rs.1499. The purple panel on the body served as my main inspiration for the rest of the look. With most kurtas, you can mix and match so well. So though I picked purple, a deep green or gold accessories would look just as great.
This kurta would hit you slightly above the knee so you could easily wear it as a dress with a jacket or a belt to make it more dress- like.
If you feel uncomfortable with the length, you could pair it with 20 or 40 denier tights in a lighter purple. These tights are from Kate Spade. I love the swirly spiral pattern. Makes your legs look thinner I think.
To avoid an overdose of fuchsia-purple, I picked these dark plum pumps from Lulu Townsend.
No Indian outfit is complete without some bling, so I picked these gorgeous jeweled resin square bangle in a deep red and a wooden plum bangle with rhinestones to tie the dress and shoes together. You could always add simple stud earrings and a ring or two to polish your outfit.

I have a couple more outfits in mind with Indian pieces with a western twist. Will post them later this week.

What do you think of this outfit? Have I inspired you to try red and purple together? Any other ways of wearing Indian clothes here in the US?

Crave/Save: Blake Lively Look

The posts are coming in fast this week. Don't forget to enter my eye shadow giveaway here. Colors that even a non-eye shadow person can wear just to waken up tired looking eyes.
Coming this post. Very long back Blake Lively wore this typically sexy look from Michael Kors to the MTV movie awards. I loved the vibrant hue and the cut of the dress though I didn't particularly like the armpit cutouts.

A few days ago I found this gorgeous dress on Zara that gives you pretty much the same look minus the cutouts. The dress is half cotton and half  polyester with a tiny bit of elastane while the Michael Kors is wool (I think. Its sold out everywhere). The dress is also available in red and you can buy it for $79.90 here.

If you buy the right size, the dress would look incredible. Sexy a tad but still would look professional with a blazer.
Zara has a shorter similar version too which I really liked. This one is 97% cotton so a little more breathable if you like to embrace natural fabrics.

I like the short tulip shape. It has really light embellishments in the neckline and sides which are a more practical option of Blake's cutouts. You can buy this here for $59.90

What do you think of these dresses?  Which one is your favourite?

Outfit Post: Birthday!

Hi everyone. I had an amazing birthday yesterday. Thank you for all your wishes and a huge shoutout to my friend Meena who gave me a gorgeous necklace as a birthday gift.

I just wanted to do a quick post on my outfit yesterday.

Coat - Macy's (old) (similar)
Blue Dress - $29.94 - Old Navy
Metallic Boucle Bag - $24.80 - Forever 21
Metal cap toe flats - $19.80 - Forever 21
Earrings -Old Navy (available in store)

 Polka Dot Tights - $6.80 - Forever 21

I'm so sorry that the dress is wrinkled but I pretty much wore it straight out of the box and I didn't think a new piece would be wrinkled. I bought the dress only yesterday. I didn't want to buy a new dress since I bought so much other stuff already but my mom and hubby were really sad that I was not wearing a new dress , so I bought this dark blue dress I'd had an eye on for a while from Old Navy.

Here is a closer look at the shoes and bag.

I couldn't even try to explain how much I love both these. As you know I'm getting fall - ready in my shopping. I have acquired a mustard purse and sweater, a burgundy bag. So this rich royal purple was the crown jewel of my collection this year. I love how Chanel-like the boucle looks and I also love that its a cross-body. The metal toe flats are something that I have been looking for for so long. Since most metal cap toes are painted.. I was really excited to see this one as actual highly polished metal. Such a score. Great job, Forever 21!!

Hope you like the outfit and thanks for reading,

Vermicelli Upma

It a Monday Midday and I know you are looking for lunch recipes for the rest of the week. Here is a tasty idea.

So simple.
1 cup vermicelli
Some peanuts
Some Mustard seeds
Two chillies
1 tbsp ghee or butter
Some oil
A pinch of turmeric
Some lime juice (optional)

Wasn't that the most imprecise bunch of ingredients ever? You can't screw this up, I'm telling you.

1. Heat ghee in a frying pan and fry the vermicelli till its golden brown.
2. Transfer it to a plate.
3. Heat oil in a frying pan and add mustard seeds.
4. When the mustard seeds splutter, add peanuts and fry.
5. Slit the chillies and add them to the oil.
6. Add the roasted vermicelli to this and add water just to the surface of the vermicelli.
7. Close with a lid and let the vermicelli soften to noodle consistency.
8. When the vermicelli is soft, add salt and lime juice and mix evenly.
9. Let all the water evaporate and then serve with coconut chutney. (or eat it from the frying pan, plain like I did)

Tada.. easy weekday lunch for one.

Fall trends: Burgandy bags

Yeah... we are talking about fall. I know there are still a few more days to wear pastels and sandals but I love fall and its never too soon to get ready for it. I love indulging in deep wine red, mustard and deep teal.. Is it too early in the day for philosophy? But I do like colors that are intent on fulfilling  their colorfulness - a red that is deep red or a yellow that is committed to being yellow as opposed to a half hearted color such as light sheer pink which would rather be white. But this rule is only for fall. Summer can be filled with pretend colors, I don't mind!
Anyway, I showed you the mustard wallet/wristlet that I bought in Nordstrom here. So I was on the lookout for a deep red bag. I hate slouchy bags or hobos. So I was overjoyed to find this neat tote -

I don't know why it took me so long to order this because I have been drooling over it for months. I love how it is quilted but not all the way through and it can be slung over the shoulder with the braided chain handle if I needed my hands free. Anyway, this month, I finally ordered it for $44. I think I bought the last piece on the site because it is sold out now. I hope they don't tell me my order didn't go through. I so love it.
Anyway, since I didn't want you guys to feel left out, I have lined up some of my favourite bags in this deep wine hue. Enjoy!

I love the Alexander Wang inspired Jaxon Stud duffel bag and the Liz Claiborne hibiscus printed bag. Which are your favorites? Do you buy summer and winter bags? What colors have you picked for fall?

Crave/Save - Michael Kors Tank dress

Hello! How was your weekend? Have you been enjoying Project Runway like I have been? I always love the judges costumes and Heidi's opening credits Michael Kors look is so simple and chic. Here is a grainy screen grab I managed to get.

The dress looks like its sold out online, so here is a much less expensive option with the same look from Forever 21.

Since most Michael Kors dresses retail for $200 to $2000, this dress is a quite the bargain at $22.80 IMO and you can buy it here. Have a great week ahead and thanks for reading!

Julep Maven - Bombshell box review

In addition to my Birchbox, Glossybox , I had enrolled in the Julep Maven box last month. This is not a sampling service. Instead they send you two full size nail colours every month. Each one retails for $14 so for $20 a month, you get a pretty good deal. You also get 20% off and free shipping on their website. The introductory box is only $4.99 (including shipping) and you can select one of their five introductory boxes. I chose the bombshell box.
These were the contents of my box,

It had two cute toe separators, a pedi creme and two fabulous nail polishes. I die for the poppy red called Natasha and a shiny glittery gold nail polish aptly called Oscar.
The nail colours are very opaque and incredibly smooth to apply. The glitter polish is more sheer but as you can see on my accent nail, it still looks amazing after a couple of coats.

Julep Natasha and Oscar
Its safe to say that I love the Julep Maven box and I'm not even a nail colour person. I'm also extremely impressed by their great customer service. Though the colors were amazing, I skipped the August box.  I wanted to wait and see their quality and now I'm regretting skipping it. I may not continue the service for more than a few months and that is only because there is something called "too many nail colours" for me but if you are a nail colour person, this box is strongly recommended. Even if you are not into nail colours,  you can skip any month you don't like and go for the months that you love. Which is what I'm going to do. If you would like to try out the first month for $4.99, click here to sign up. The link is my referral link and if you sign up through that, I get points. Thank you in case you do. Would you buy this service, even for a few months?
